Construction industry welcomes prompt payment law but details need to be ‘figured out’ – iPolitics
The Federal Prompt Payment for Construction Work Act, which formed part of the Liberal government’s sprawling 2019 budget implementation bill, requires Ottawa to pay contractors for their work within 28 days of receiving an invoice.
It also requires contractors that have
been paid by the government to pay their subcontractors within 35 days
of receiving the payment. If the government chooses to challenge or
dispute an invoice, it must give a “nonpayment” notice to the contractor
no later than 21 days after receiving the invoice.
