'Crisis' in energy sector not reflected in throne speech, says Jason Kenney
Quote from Steve on September 24, 2020, 8:02 amAlberta Premier Jason Kenney had some misgivings about the throne speech yesterday. As reported by the CBC, he claimed the Liberal energy agenda will "strangle investment and jeopardize resource jobs [in Alberta]."
"Alberta is disappointed that instead of listening to Canada's provinces, the federal government doubled down on policies that will kill jobs, make Canada poorer and weaken national unity," Kenney said in a statement.
Personally, I didn't hear anything of the sort other than some weak, vague promises about living up to their commitment to reach the goals set in the Paris Agreement.
"Alberta has never asked for a handout," Kenney said. "Instead, we are merely asking for the federal government to support our province in the same way that Alberta has supported Canada for generations."
He could be right. He never asked for a handout. In a pugilistic manner he has demanded, berated, stomped his feet and whinged, but I don't think he has ever politely asked. He has demanded Ottawa give the province its due.
