Richmond Hill Deputy Mayor Apologizes for Cheering On Pierre Poilievreâs Homophobic and Transphobic Speech
Richmond Hill Deputy Mayor Apologizes for Cheering On Pierre Poilievreâs Homophobic and Transphobic Speech
2SLGBTQIA+ community groups question why Pierre Poilievreâs âbigotedâ and âdiscriminatory rhetoricâ keeps getting a pass
A municipal politician who cheered on Pierre Poilievre as the Conservative leader delivered a homophobic and transphobic speech is publicly apologizing for his role in the incident following a backlash from local 2SLGBTQIA+ community leaders.
But 2SLGBTQIA+ groups say the apology doesnât go far enough â and they question why Poilievreâs âbigotedâ and âdiscriminatory rhetoricâ keeps getting a pass.
Godwin Chan, a councillor and Deputy Mayor of Richmond Hill, Ontario, appeared on stage with the Conservative leader during a meet-and-greet event last week.
During a speech at the event, Poilievre accused Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of personally imposing âradical gender ideologyâ on children.
Video from the event shows Chan standing on stage next to Poilievre through his entire speech, nodding along and applauding at various moments â including in response to Poilievreâs âradical gender ideologyâ comments.
Poilievreâs comments came under fire from 2SLGBTQIA+ leaders and the Liberal Party of Canada released a video showing showing US Republican figures, including Ron DeSantis, Matt Gaetz and Lauren Boebert, using the same language as Poilievre.
âThere isnât a province in Canada that currently allows minors to seek surgical interventions to support gender changes without parental consent,â the letter notes. âIf that is what Mr. Poilievre has led you and others in that room to believe, they are mistaken.â
âThe issue though is much more nuanced than a one-liner.â
âYour head nod, your applause, wasnât just an approval of that discriminatory statement from Mr. Poilievre, it was incredibly dangerous,â the letter adds. âYour applause and nod of approval provides legitimacy to the generalized and frankly bigoted statement from the CPC, from someone running to be the next Prime Minister of our country.â
âOthers will listen to Mr. Poilievre, see your nod of approval, and seek to suppress their loved-ones identity.â |Read more https://pressprogress.ca/richmond-hill-deputy-mayor-apologizes-for-cheering-on-pierre-poilievres-homophobic-and-transphobic-speech/| pressprogress.ca/richmond-hillâŚ

Me too! We know the bigger companies are not reporting all of their emissions. This satellite will keep them honest.

New satellite will detect and share CO2 data from individual facilities
New satellite will detect and share CO2 data from individual facilities
Nov 11 (Reuters) – Canadian emissions monitoring company GHGSat on Saturday launched a satellite aimed at detecting carbon dioxide emissions from individual facilities like coal plants and steel mills from space for the first time.
The satellite, named Vanguard, launched from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, GHGSat said.
Space-age technology is increasingly being used to hold polluting industries accountable for their contributions to climate change. GHGSat’s data is available for sale to industrial emitters who want to reduce their emissions, as well as to governments and scientists.
Vanguard will build on the growing network of satellites that are already spotting plumes of methane, an invisible greenhouse gas that is difficult to detect because it tends to leak from an array of small sources including pipelines, drill sites and farms.
Carbon dioxide accounts for nearly 80% of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions from human activities and tends to enter the atmosphere from large industrial sources like power plants. Satellites monitoring carbon dioxide in the atmosphere currently are not focused on facility-level emissions, GHGSat said. |Read more https://www.reuters.com/business/environment/new-satellite-will-detect-share-co2-data-individual-facilities-2023-11-11/| reuters.com/business/environmeâŚ
