10 of 13 ‘Flagship’ CCS Projects Failed to Deliver, IEEFA Analysis Concludes:
The report lands
just as analysts in the United States warn of major verification
problems with a CCS tax credit that received a major boost in the Biden
administration’s new climate action plan, and as Canadian fossils lobby
for more tax relief to match what’s becoming available in the U.S.
One of the case studies in the 79-page IEEFA report [pdf] concludes that the troubled
Boundary Dam CCS project in Saskatchewan has missed its carbon capture
by about 50%. The 13 “flagship, large-scale” projects in the analysis
account for about 55% of the world’s current carbon capture capacity,
the institute says in a release.

Is your boss guilty of ‘quiet firing’? Here’s how to tell – National | Globalnews.ca:
Other terms for quiet firing include “constructive dismissal” or “managing out,” but regardless, it can be pinpointed with behaviour like micromanaging, leaving employees out of the loop, cutting back hours and other passive-aggressive workplace tactics.
Some people argue the problem doesn’t lie with those who are setting healthy boundaries between work and life, but instead lies with employers who create workplaces that are so awful the employee feels no choice but to quit.

RCMP investigating verbal attack on Chrystia Freeland in Alberta | Globalnews.ca:
The RCMP is investigating after a man verbally attacked Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland during a visit to Alberta last week in the latest of a worsening spate of abuse against women in public roles.
Sgt. Caroline Duval from the national police force confirmed in a
statement Tuesday that investigators are looking into the incident,
adding that the force “takes threats against public officials
seriously.”
“Physical action and statements made in person or
online can have a significant impact and can be against the law. When
the threshold for a criminal charge is met, the RCMP or the police of
jurisdiction may arrest and lay charges,” Duval said in the statement.

Explainer: Canada invokes 1977 treaty to keep crude pipeline running
Explainer: Canada invokes 1977 treaty to keep crude pipeline running:
By invoking the treaty, Canada triggers an arbitration process, essentially forcing the Biden administration to negotiate.
The
treaty guarantees uninterrupted flow of petroleum products between the
United States and Canada. It states that any disputes should be settled
by negotiation as far as possible, and if that fails either the United
States or Canada can request arbitration. The first step would be to
appoint three arbitrators, according to the terms of the treaty. Kristen
van de Biezenbos, a law professor at the University of Calgary, said
the whole process could easily take months.
“The
arbitrators appointed…shall decide any dispute, including appropriate
remedies, by majority. Their decision shall be binding on the Parties,”
Article Nine of the treaty states.
