Study finds high levels of deadly blood cancer in Ontario industrial cities | CBC News
The peer-reviewed study, which was published in February in the journal Cancer, examined 18,085 cases of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) reported in Canada between 1992 and 2010.
Researchers
discovered Ontario and P.E.I had “significantly higher” AML rates than
the national average, with hotspots also found in Ontario cities like
Sault Ste. Marie and St. Catharines.

“He took one look at it and he knew immediately that this was not normal,” said Greer. “We knew it didn’t belong here.”
Red flag warning issued on wildfire burning near High Level | CBC News
A red flag warning has been issued for the Chuckegg Creek wildfire near High Level, Alta., due to hot, dry weather and moderate winds.
Such
warnings are issued when fire weather meteorologists see conditions
that could lead to “blow-up fire behaviour,” said Derek Gagnon, wildfire
information officer.
“Fires will grow very rapidly and spread
very quickly, and that can pose a critical degree of danger to not only
our personnel but the public as well,” Gagnon said on Wednesday.
High
temperatures, low humidity, stronger winds and dry conditions on the
ground are all factors that contribute to a red flag warning, he said.
This is the second time such a warning has been issued for the Chuckegg
Creek wildfire. Similar warnings have been issued in connection with
other fires burning in northern Alberta, he said.
A former member of the Assiniboia RCMP has been charged with criminal breach of trust after $16,000 disappeared from a charity’s bank account.
On Monday, Jason St. Pierre was charged with criminal breach of trust. The charge has not been proven in court.
The charge comes more than three years after he led a December 2015 fundraising campaign for a local charity in the town, located 135 kilometres southwest of Regina, Saskatchewan RCMP said in a news release.
In January 2017, it was discovered that the charity’s bank account was empty, RCMP said in the Wednesday release. An investigation revealed that more than $16,000 had been withdrawn from the bank account, which was then closed.
