That still doesn’t fix the inherent problem. There is a major loophole with that line of reasoning.
Lets say that a Green candidate declares they’re pro-choice either because they actually do believe that, or don’t believe that and lie about it. Party vetting is never perfect and every election MP’s get exposed for something they should have been vetted against.
What happens if the Greens now have an MP who has either changed their mind about their views, or always held anti-choice views, and now has declared their intention to vote for anti-choice legislation.
Now the Greens can’t do anything to stop that. This shouldn’t be happening period.
You’re right — it probably shouldn’t be happening, but it’s far more democratic if it does.
