B.C.’s
chief coroner, Lisa Lapointe, has reported that more than 300 excess
deaths have occurred during the last five days of June that were
attributable to the ravages of extreme heat. Many of the people who died
lived alone, were elderly, and lived in residences that were overheated
and poorly ventilated.

As residents of B.C .and citizens of
Canada, we need to be more than passive observers as temperature records
are smashed and towns are burning.

The province of B.C. and the
country of Canada are major contributors to the problem of global
overheating. The provincial government is exacerbating the climate
crisis by supporting fossil fuel development. It is established that
fossil fuels are the biggest contributor to greenhouse gas production
and hence to a warming planet.
