While the government has presented the legislation as a way to streamline
and improve what many consider to be a poor approvals process
introduced by the former Harper government, critics maintain that
replacing a bad system with another problematic one will not solve
persistent problems. To that end, a number of Conservative and
Independent senators have said they will push for amendments.
