Wildfire officials issued an update on the ‘very serious’ situation parts of central and northern Alberta were in on Friday.

A Wildwood, Alta., resident whose community was evacuated because of a fire on Monday had been waiting the situation out in Drayton Valley – that is, until, that community was evacuated Thursday night, too.

Officers believe they have caught the man who attacked seven women, and sexually assaulted some of them, in the Cumberland neighbourhood last month.

A 4,300-hectare wildfire is encroaching on the barge landing that serves as the main access point for a northern Alberta Indigenous community.

An 18-year-old man from a northern Alberta First Nation has been charged with sexually assaulting a young child, whom investigators are asking for help to identify.
