Authorities towed away trucks, arrested more than 200 people and laid hundreds of charges.

Extremist ideologues portrayed the police response as “brutality” and the use of the Emergencies Act as further evidence of federal “tyranny,” comparing the government tactics to those of foreign dictatorships, the Feb. 24 assessment noted.

Didulo, the self-proclaimed “Queen of Canada,” arrived in the city in
a crowd-funded RV on Saturday along with a group of 30 individuals.
Didulo for months has called for the arrests and killings of anyone
involved with Canada’s rollout of COVID-19 vaccines. Her followers —
with 70,000 on Telegram, many staunch anti-vaccine supporters — often deliver “cease and desist” letters to organizations demanding they end their “crimes against humanity.”

In a message, she asked her followers to meet in Peterborough to detain Peterborough Police Service officers in their Water Street station and wait for the military to arrive to arrest them.

Canada to start testing some wastewater for polio ‘as soon as possible’ | CBC News:

The Public Health Agency of
Canada (PHAC) already works to monitor polio activity around the world, a
spokesperson said in an email response to CBC News questions.

Currently,
PHAC’s National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg does have the
diagnostic tools available to test samples for poliovirus. Any suspected
positive Canadian samples of poliovirus will be sent to that lab for
further laboratory analysis and confirmation, with results shared with
the respective local health authorities “so appropriate public health
measures can be taken if necessary.”

According
to the statement, PHAC has been communicating with national and
international partners who are experts in this field to finalize a
wastewater testing strategy. It will be testing wastewater samples that
were collected earlier this year from “key high-risk municipalities” to
determine if polio was present prior to the reported international
cases.

The agency is not yet sharing which cities or municipalities are involved, a spokesperson said.

Trudeau and German Chancellor to sign hydrogen deal in Newfoundland:

The German government on Friday issued a statement confirming the
agreement will be signed Aug. 23 in Stephenville, where a
Newfoundland-based company plans to build a zero-emission plant that
will use wind energy to produce hydrogen and ammonia for export.

If approved, the project would be the first of its kind in Canada.

Germany is keen to find new sources of energy because Russia’s
invasion of Ukraine has led to a surge in natural gas prices. As well,
Russia has reduced its flow of natural gas to its European customers,
prompting concerns about supply shortages.
