Spike in Ontario teachers seeking medical exemptions from work amid COVID-19 pandemic | CBC News: Family physicians are “increasingly” getting the requests,
including many from teachers, said Dr. Jennifer Young, president of the
OCFP.

“The guidance is if you have a chronic disease that is
severe, a chronic disease that’s not well controlled, a chronic disease
that requires immuno-suppressants … the severity of the disease
requires more than average accommodation,” Young said.

That
could mean requests for an in-class work exemption or other
accommodations for someone with severe asthma or chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease, for instance, or patients taking drugs that suppress
their immune system for a variety of conditions ranging from cancer to
inflammatory bowel disease.

“We have educators who were able to
work in a classroom pre-pandemic, but have underlying conditions that
now make being in that face-to-face situation too great a risk,” said
Harvey Bischof, president of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers
Federation (OSSTF).

Canada not on pace to meet target to cut methane emissions by 2025: Environment Minister Jonathan Wilkinson is open to imposing tougher regulations to curb methane emissions from the oil and gas sector if that is required to hit a 2025 target to cut them by almost half, his staff said Friday.

Canada set a goal in 2016 to cut methane emissions by 40 to 45 per cent in 2025 compared to what they were in 2012. A new report from the Pembina Institute and Environmental Defence says the regulations in place now for methane will only achieve a 29 per cent cut by 2025.

“They’re not on track to meet the target,” said Jan Gorski, a senior analyst at the Pembina Institute.

A statement released through Wilkinson’s office did not question the analysis, saying only that the federal government is “committed” to hitting the promised target.

Ontario First Nations mark 25 years since Ipperwash crisis, death of protester:
The crisis began on Labour Day – Sept. 4, 1995 – after members of the
Chippewas Kettle and Stoney Point First Nation occupied Ipperwash
Provincial Park in protest of nearby reserve land that was seized by the
Canadian government during the Second World War to create a military
base.

For two days, protesters and police faced off as authorities attempted to remove the occupiers from the park.

During a confrontation on the final day, members of the OPP’s tactical
response unit opened fire on a group of protesters as they attempted to
leave the park, killing George in the process.

“The Ipperwash Inquiry resulted in a number of recommendations that
helped redefine Ontario’s relationship with Indigenous communities,”
Rickford said in a statement Saturday.
