Suncor going ahead with $300MM new Alberta wind farm | Renewables | JWN Energy
Suncor Energy is significantly expanding its position in Canadian wind power, announcing on Monday it will go ahead with a the first phase of a major new wind farm in Southern Alberta.
The project, called Forty Mile, is located on approximately 50,000 acres of private land, south and east of the town of Bow Island, the company says.
The first $300-million phase will have 200 MW of generating capacity, and is expected to be in commercial service in December 2021.

The bank was concerned with Alberta’s total emissions, and by that measure the province is doing terribly. Its oil sands alone did more damage
to the climate last year than the entire economy of B.C., and Alberta’s

The union received the letters
in advance of bargaining for 2020 collective agreements. The letters are
not formal notices of layoffs, but as required under the collective
bargaining process, outline cuts the provincial government might make.
The potential cuts would impact 2,500 Government of Alberta positions
across several ministries, as well as the following positions at Alberta
Health Services:
- 1,000 to 2,000 housekeepers;
- 350 administrative support and medical transcription employees;
- 250 general support staff, such as maintenance employees;
- 235 laundry and linen operations staff;
- 200 auxiliary nursing employees, such as licensed practical nurses and health-care aides;
- 200 home care services staff;
- 165 foodservice employees.
