The man who projects to be Canada’s prime minister as early as this spring came to Halifax Friday evening to tour a north-end brewery.
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre posed for photos with Oland Brewery plant workers, delivered a speech, snatched a few boxes of canned Alexander Keith’s beer off the plant conveyor system for a photo opportunity and quipped that the Trudeau Liberal government taxation over the past nine years “is almost enough to drive a man to drink.”
After the tour, Poilievre took some time for one-on-one interviews with a series of reporters.
“I really want to bring home the promise of Canada that anybody who works hard gets a nice home on a safe street and good food on their family’s table,” Poilievre told The Chronicle Herald.
(Note from Steve: Estimates of the total value of Mr. & Mrs. Pierre Poilievre’s real estate holdings vary. Some sources suggest that Poilievre’s real estate portfolio is worth approximately $10 million, with properties located in Ottawa, Ontario; Calgary, Alberta; and British Columbia. To bring the cost of homes down will lower his own income. Would you choose to do this to yourself?)
“That’s been lost after nine years of costly taxes and Liberal government. Our Conservatives are going to bring it home.”
To accomplish that, Poilievre said “first and foremost, I’ll be axing the carbon tax that has terrorized people under nine years of Liberal (leadership). The tax is really driving up the cost of food, gas and other essentials. I will also be lowering income tax, reversing the capital gains tax increase and taking the GST off new homes so that our youth can afford a place to live.”
(Note from Steve: Household Impact of the Carbon Tax: The net effect of the carbon tax on households varies. In some regions, rebates associated with the carbon tax have resulted in a net financial benefit for households. For instance, in Ontario, the median annual net cost of carbon taxes for households in 2023 was estimated to be negative, meaning that most households received more in rebates than they paid in carbon taxes. Likewise for most of us here in Alberta we get more back than what we paid into it.
Reversing the capital gains tax could affect you if you make over $250,000 per year ). |Read more|
