SNC-Lavalin withdraws 2019 forecast, plans to sell resources unit

SNC’s shares, which have fallen more than 44% in 2019, fell nearly 8% in morning trade.

Montreal-based
SNC has been facing a trial in Canada over fraud and corruption charges
related to allegations that former executives paid bribes to win
contracts in Libya under Muammar Gaddafi’s regime, which fell in 2011.
The company’s unsuccessful attempts to reach a settlement led to a
political scandal engulfing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Ottawa formally asks companies to make their pitches to replace CF-18 jets | CBC News

The federal government formally submitted requests for
proposals (RFP) today to procure fighter jets to replace the
decades-old CF-18s.

Four companies are in the running to supply
Canada with roughly 80 new jets: Saab of Sweden, Airbus Defence and
Space out of Britain, and the American firms Boeing and Lockheed Martin.

Those
companies have until spring of 2020 to submit their initial proposals
to the $19-billion competition. A decision on the winning bid is not
expected until 2022 — the military procurement process can take years —
with delivery of the first jets expected by 2025.

Quebec received 62% of the total federal to province funding after the House of Commons adjourned – True North News

According to findings by True North, the Canadian government spent a total of $4.63 billion in taxpayer dollars from the time the House of Commons adjourned on June 21, 2019 until July 12, 2019.

The information used for this analysis was mostly acquired from official Government of Canada news releases for the time period specified.

$953,783 for three winter activity clubs in Quebec: $143.7 million for girls education in sub-Saharan Africa: $581,379 to fight homelessness. Lots of stuff more important than homelessness.

At the same time, he said “it doesn’t give me the full protection because they’re still contacting me and sending these letters and phoning and threatening — ‘Hey, if you don’t do this, we’ll just do a Section 104 [right of entry] and come on your property anyway.’ So they’re still playing tactics and it makes you feel like you don’t own your land.”

In a filing on June 18, Trans Mountain said it is still working to finalize 1,112 land acquisition contracts along the route, or roughly a third of the 3,193 tracts of land identified for acquisition.

Indigenous nation in Washington State seeks meeting with feds on Trans Mountain – Prince Rupert Northern View

The Lummi Nation in northwest Washington state is requesting a
meeting with Canadian officials regarding the environmental impacts of
industrial projects on the Salish Sea off the coasts of Washington and
British Columbia.

The secretary for the nation sent a letter to Foreign Affairs
Minister Chrystia Freeland this week, saying that projects including the
Trans Mountain pipeline expansion will result in unavoidable,
irreversible and unacceptable harm to the nation’s territorial waters.

In particular, the letter points to the effect of increased shipping
traffic on fishing areas, as well as the dangers of ship strikes, noise
pollution and oil spills for endangered Southern Resident Killer Whales.
