2 ships collide in the night in Vancouver Harbour | CBC News

The M.V. Caravos Harmony and the M.V. Pan Acacia hit each other at approximately 12:20 a.m. P.T. on March 17.

TSB spokesman
Chris Krepski said there were no reports of injuries or a polluting
spill, but couldn’t say what either vessel was carrying or if they were
under tug boat control at the time of collision.

“We’re still gathering information on the sequence of events,” he said.

Hamilton declares a climate change emergency | CBC News

Pending a final city council vote, the city has vowed to treat climate change as an existential crisis. It will establish a task force across numerous departments and try to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

The vote happened Monday at a city board of health meeting. All 10 councillors present voted for the declaration. An audience of environmentalists cheered, then hugged each other afterward. #onpoli

The Montreal startup using satellites to help the oilsands find emission leaks | CBC News

The oilsands industry in
northern Alberta is already using the technology as the sector tries to
gather better information about emissions.

Montreal-based
GHGSat will launch its second satellite into space this summer to
improve the data collects and give companies an even better picture of
the emissions from their facilities.

Weedkiller ‘raises risk of non-Hodgkin lymphoma by 41%’

A broad new scientific analysis
of the cancer-causing potential of glyphosate herbicides, the most
widely used weedkilling products in the world, has found that people
with high exposures to the popular pesticides have a 41% increased risk
of developing a type of cancer called non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

The evidence “supports a compelling link” between exposures to
glyphosate-based herbicides and increased risk for non-Hodgkin lymphoma
(NHL), the authors concluded, though they said the specific numerical
risk estimates should be interpreted with caution.

Nova Scotia court grants injunction against Mi’kmaw protester at Alton Gas site | CBC News

Justice Gerald Moir said protester Dale Poulette, his partner Rachael Greenland-Smith and others must stop occupying a two-storey mud-and-straw hut on the site.

Outside the courthouse, a group of about 50 protesters held
banners suggesting the Nova Scotia courts were consistently failing to
protect the rights of Aboriginal Canadians.
