Ontario moving ahead with municipal funding cuts in 2020, Doug Ford says | CBC News

Ontario will move ahead with some of its controversial
municipal funding cuts for public health and child care next year,
Premier Doug Ford is expected to announce Monday at a gathering of
municipal leaders in Ottawa.

The Progressive Conservative
government tried to force retroactive funding cuts this year but had to
cancel them after municipal leaders complained their annual budgets had
already passed.

On the campaign trail last spring, Kenney’s United Conservative Party
promised to cut the tax rate by one-third, to 8%, claiming the move
would create at least 55,000 jobs and expand the provincial economy by
C$12.7 billion, the Calgary Herald reports. The 1% cut that took effect
July 1 has delivered what Savage freely describes as a “windfall” for
the companies, but not so much for Albertans hoping for a break in a
tough, fossil-dependent economy.

third party for the election, an onerous requirement that could
jeopardize a group’s charitable tax status, Gray said.

Manitoba Progressive Conservatives propose $25M in annual retrofit rebates | CBC News

If re-elected in the 2019
provincial race, the party will invest $25 million each year so
homeowners and business executives can make more energy efficient
renovations, according to Rochelle Squires, the party’s candidate for
Riel.

“Our
guarantee to Manitobans is that we will support them in making their
homes and buildings more energy efficient,” Squires said during a
Saturday press conference.

Varcoe: Energy minister explains why corporate tax cut has not yet boosted oilpatch jobs

The UCP pledged in the spring election to lower the corporate tax rate by one-third to eight per cent, saying it would create at least 55,000 jobs and expand the economy by $12.7 billion.

The opposition NDP billed it a historic “giveaway” to profitable firms.

During the second quarter, oilsands producer Suncor Energy reported net earnings climbed to $2.7 billion, including a one‑time deferred income tax recovery of $1.1 billion to reflect the reduction of Alberta’s corporate income tax rate.

“The concern is that there are companies that are not using the corporate tax savings — or the reduction in what they’re paying in taxes — to hire new people and invest in job creation, which is what Premier Kenney promised,” said NDP MLA Deron Bilous.
