Jeremy Mackenzie, leader of the controversial Diagolon movement, arrested on Canada-wide warrant | CBC News: Mackenzie is a prolific podcaster and the leader of an online group
known as Diagolon. A June 2022 House of Commons report identified the
organization as an ideologically motivated violent extremist
organization.

“It’s made up of former members of the Canadian
Forces, individuals with real combat training, with real capabilities
and who have grown increasingly radicalized, especially because of
COVID,” the report says, quoting Mubin Shaikh, a professor of public
safety at Seneca College.

The report notes there are connections
between Diagolon and extremists who were arrested at the Coutts, Alta.,
border crossing during the February convoy protest. It said those
extremists “were ready to engage police in a firefight.”

Members
of Diagolon have been tied to the convoy protests and two Diagolon
patches were found on body armour seized during the execution of RCMP
search warrants at Coutts.

Canada’s three major grocery chains all posted increased
profits in their most recent financial reports. Loblaw reported a
quarterly profit of $387 million — an increase of $12 million, or 3.2
per cent, over the same quarter last year.

Metro posted a $275
million quarterly profit, up from $252.4 million in the same quarter the
year before. And Empire reported a profit of $178.5 million in its
latest quarter, up $6.6 million in the same quarter in the previous
year.

grills no more than necessary and use motion detectors to turn off

Canada Adds to Alarming Rise in Global Pipeline Construction: With a new report expected to reveal a massive increase in global oil
pipeline construction, an analyst says Canada is running counter to
public opinion and wider international trends by adding to the problem.

The
global pipeline buildout, documented by Global Energy Monitor (GEM) in
an analysis to be released at midnight tonight, runs counter to the
International Energy Agency’s call
last year for no new oil, gas, or coal projects to hold average global
warming to 1.5°C. And it flouts carbon budget analysis by the
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change showing that global emissions must peak by 2025 to keep any hope of 1.5°C alive.

Last
week, a new database released by GEM and the Carbon Tracker Initiative
showed that fossils around the world hold enough proven reserves of oil,
gas, and coal to “emit more planet-heating emissions than have occurred
since the industrial revolution, easily blowing the remaining carbon
budget before societies are subjected to catastrophic global heating,”
the Guardian reported.
“You’ve got governments issuing new licences or permits for coal that
are completely decoupled from their own climate commitments,” said
Carbon Tracker founder Mark Campanale.

And when it comes to
pipelines, Canada is doing its part to make a dire situation worse, said
Julia Levin, national climate policy manager at Environmental Defence
Canada.

Noting that “things are only getting worse,” and warning that monster storms that used to arrive only once every 100 years will likely become far more frequent, he urged the imperative to build more resilient infrastructure, reports The Associated Press.
